Stafford youth arrested over attack on Pc

A 17-year-old youth has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer in Staffordshire.

Pc Brian Griffiths, 54, was attacked after coming across three youths on the roof of Flash Ley School in Stafford in the early hours of Monday.

He was repeatedly kicked in the head when he tried to arrest one youth on suspicion of burglary, police said.

The Stafford youth has been released on bail as inquiries continue.

'Well wishes'

Officers have also questioned two other youths they were searching for in relation to the incident at the school in Hawksmoor Road.

Pc Griffiths, who suffered bruising and facial injuries, was treated at the scene by a paramedic.

He has returned to work after several days off at home.

Staffordshire Police said Pc Griffiths was on duty in plain clothes at the time of the incident and had showed his warrant card to make the arrest.

Det Sgt Dave Wain said: "Pc Griffiths has returned to operational duty today and is grateful for the support and well wishes of the community, friends and colleagues."
