Woman arrested after men's fire escape in Cheadle

A woman has been arrested after a fire in two cars spread to a bungalow in Staffordshire.

Police said the woman is being questioned after the fire on Tean Road in Cheadle at about 0030 BST.

Glynn Luznyj from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said a group of men inside the property had a "narrow escape".

He said the men had escaped through the rear of the property as the front door was on fire.

'Narrow escape'

Mr Luznyj said: "The cars being parked so close to the bungalow had actually taken out their primary means of escape - the front door.

"It burnt that fiercely it had actually destroyed the front door and also caught part of the roof and so therefore they had to find another way out through the back - quite a narrow escape."

He added the fire had led to the property becoming smoke-logged and had also spread to a neighbouring bungalow.

Police and fire investigators were at the scene trying to find the cause of the fire.
