Two die as car hits parked lorry in Stoke-on-Trent

A man and his 16-year-old passenger died when the car they were travelling in hit a lorry parked in a lay-by in Stoke-on-Trent.

The crash happened on the westbound carriageway of the A500, near Hanford, just after 2300 BST on Wednesday.

It was raining heavily and the blue Nissan suffered massive damage when it hit the lorry, ambulance crews said.

The driver of the parked HGV was shocked but unhurt, West Midlands Ambulance Service said.

Staffordshire Police named the driver of the car as 26-year-old Ian Lewkowicz from Trentham, Stoke-on-Trent. His passenger came from the same city and was 16-year-old Hayley Bates from Biddulph.
