Consultation starts for new Staffordshire fire stations

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service is consulting about its £50m plans for 10 new community fire stations.

The service plans to rebuild stations in Stone, Burton-on-Trent, Chase Terrace, Codsall, Kinver, Lichfield, Leek, Penkridge, Ashley and Rugeley.

The consultation will take place next month in Chase Terrace and Lichfield.

The project is part of a public finance initiative (PFI) and a separate PFI scheme rebuilding 10 other stations is already under way, a spokesman said.

Assistant area commander for Lichfield, Dermot Hogan, said: "We are still in the early stages of planning these new facilities, but our vision for these new fire stations is to make them 'community-embracing'.

"The consultation events will give the public and members of local organisations the chance to influence the shape of the new stations with regards to their design and how they are used."

Consultation events are being held at Chase Terrace Fire Station on 4 November and Lichfield Fire Station on 11 November.
