Stoke-on-Trent shops and apartments plan backed

Plans for a new seven-storey block including shops, offices and restaurants in Stoke-on-Trent have been recommended for approval.

It would be built at the junction of Pall Mall and Marsh Street South.

Penthouse apartments have been proposed, but police have warned nearby nightclubs could cause noise problems for residents.

Some restaurants would also be demolished, including Roberto's Pizza House, which has objected to the plans.

Majestic Buildings on Pall Mall would be knocked down under the proposals, but the developer, Wellford Estates, said it was not of any historical or architectural interest.

The proposed new complex could get planning permission at a meeting of the city council's development management committee next Wednesday, 15 December.
