Three young men were taken to hospital after the car they were in ended up on top of a crash barrier in Staffordshire in the early hours of Christmas Day.

The car was travelling on the A38 towards Burton when the crash happened, West Midlands Ambulance Service said.

An ambulance came across the debris in the carriageway at just after 0200 GMT as temperatures there reached -12 C (10F).

The men, aged 18, 20 and 21, suffered rib, head, neck and back injuries.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "One of the three occupants had managed to get out of the car but two were still inside the wreckage.

"Firefighters removed the roof of the car to allow ambulance staff to get the two out."
