Staffordshire Rocks urges bands to join competition
Staffordshire County Council has urged local bands to get their act together and enter the annual rock competition that is Staffordshire Rocks.
Run by Staffordshire Performing Arts, it features high school groups battling it out to win prizes and become the Band of the Year.
To enter, band members must attend a school in Staffordshire, and have an endorsement from their school.
This year's deadline for applications is Friday, 8 April 2011.
Groups of all abilities and musical styles are welcome to enter the competition.
County Councillor Mike Lawrence, Cabinet Member for Children's Wellbeing, said: "I would really encourage new bands to enter; the experience will help them to develop and, who knows, maybe they'll be the next big discovery."
Heats will be held throughout May and June, at the Prince of Wales Theatre in Cannock, Thomas Alleyne's High School in Uttoxeter, and Wolstanton High School in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
The winning band, plus one runner up from each heat, will make it through to the grand final at the Gatehouse Theatre in Stafford, along with three wildcard entries.
Application forms are available from Staffordshire Performing Arts where there is more information about the competition.
