A 12-year-old Staffordshire girl, who was killed when she was hit by a bus, has been named by police.

Courtney Holdcroft, of Larch Grove, Blurton, was struck as she crossed the road near Ormiston Sir Stanley Matthews Academy in Beaconsfield Drive, Blurton.

Ch Insp Peter Hall said officers are appealing for witnesses to the crash, which happened at 1625 BST on Monday.

He said Courtney was crossing from the school-side of the road as the bus travelled on the opposite of the road.

She was taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire but pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

He said specially-trained police family liaison officers were continuing to offer support to Courtney's family at this "very difficult" time.

Several adults and children were on the bus but no-one else was injured.

"Officers are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the bus in the moments prior to it," said Ch Insp Peter Hall.
