South Staffordshire Water to replace worn out mains

Work to replace worn out water mains in a Staffordshire village has started.

South Staffordshire Water will be replacing the mains, which have been prone to bursts, in Barton under Needwood, near Burton upon Trent.

The team will start the upgrade of Main Street and Barton Gate from the Wales Lane junction to Forest Road on Monday.

The work, under temporary traffic lights, is expected to take around eight weeks to complete and the team will be working Monday to Saturday.

Staffordshire County Council is coordinating the project which will also see work carried out by Matrix Networks to continue installing the Football Association Centre's new electricity supply from 27 July.

'Major project'

The team will be working on Station Road, Main Street and Barton Gate following a previous stint along Forest Road.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of the school summer holidays with teams working seven day a week where possible.

Councillor Tim Corbett said: "This is a very complex and major project and the network management team has worked closely with South Staffordshire Water and Matrix Networks to minimise disruption.

"The two companies need to carry out this essential work and the county council has done everything in its power to ensure that it runs as smoothly as possible.

"However, I would urge motorists to avoid Main Street and Station Road, where most of the work will take place, if they can."
