Kidsgrove swimming pool set to reopen after £100,000 repairs
A Staffordshire swimming pool is set to open again this summer after the county council announced it had found the £100,000 needed for repairs.
The pool at Kidsgrove Sports Centre pool closed after rain and severe winds damaged its roof last November.
Some local residents complained about its closure while millions was spent on the nearby Jubilee2 leisure centre in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
Other services at the Kidsgrove facility have been available as usual.
"It's affected us hard as a family," said Tracey Littleton, a mother-of-two from Kidsgrove.
She said the pool was "like a respite" for her disabled five-year-old.
"The council should pump some money in to it and get it up to the standard of what the other areas have got.
"The Newcastle Jubilee is like a palace compared to what we've got here."
Mark Winnington, cabinet member for environment at Staffordshire County Council, said one of his fellow councillors visited the site in February and was "disgusted" at what he saw.
Its refurbishment was then made a priority and £100k was moved from the schools capital budget to fund the work.
"As soon as we've got the plans, and as soon as we can get things moving, we will get moving, and hopefully it'll be done by the summer," he said.
