River Weaver and River Sow flood warnings removed

Two flood warnings have been removed in Cheshire, along with another two in Staffordshire, following heavy rain that hit the area on Sunday.

The Environment Agency said the River Weaver at Shrewbridge Lodge and Weaver Way in Cheshire were no longer at risk. Two warnings previously issued for the River Sow, Staffordshire, were removed.

Cheshire East Council said six roads were closed following heavy rain.

Virgin Trains said on Twitter the line between Crewe and Chester had reopened.

The company said it been closed on Wednesday after water flooded the track.

The council said Warford Lane in Great Warford and and Hoogreen Lane in Mere were closed.

Moss Lane in Leighton, Maw Green Lane in Crewe, Tabley Hill Lane in Tabley and Whitehaven Lane in Faddiley were also shut, the authority added.

The council said it had handed out more than 500 sandbags.
