A teenager died when he crashed into a lamppost on the moped he was riding in Burton-on-Trent.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said the victim suffered "significant head and chest injuries" in the crash on Grafton Road in Stapenhill.

Paramedics tried to resuscitate him but he was confirmed dead at the scene on Sunday night.

The road was closed while forensic examinations were carried out. Police have not yet confirmed the boy's age.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: "Sadly we can now confirm that the rider of the moped has died despite the efforts of emergency crews."
