Craig Pond arrested over 'race hate' election leaflet

An independent candidate to become a Staffordshire MP has been arrested over accusations of inciting racial hatred.

Craig Pond is standing as an independent nationalist in Stoke-on-Trent North.

One of his election leaflets speaks about little girls being "gang-raped by Muslims".

Staffordshire Police said a 51-year-old man from the Chell area had been arrested on suspicion of inciting racial hatred and released on bail.

The leaflet also includes the words "Vote Labour, vote paedophile" and accuses the Labour of displaying "disgusting and unforgivable behaviour toward our children".

Labour-led Rotherham council has been accused of wholesale failings in child protection after an inquiry last year found that 1,400 children were abused by gangs of men, mainly of Pakistani origin, from 1997 to 2013, in the town.
