A man is in a critical condition following a collision with a car while riding a child's motorised scooter.

The 29-year-old and the scooter were "dragged along" some distance in the crash in Staffordshire at 23:30 BST on Monday, the ambulance service said.

The collision happened on the B5030 Uttoxeter to Rocester road, close to the JCB factory.

The man suffered significant head and abdominal injuries and a badly broken leg, a service spokesman said.

"He was carried some distance by the car, along with the scooter, causing significant damage to the bonnet, windscreen and roof of the car," he said.

"It was pitch black at the scene and crews had to use lighting as they treated the rider."

A 17-year-old man driving the car was uninjured but "very shaken".
