Cannock DFS crash: Men seriously injured in police pursuit

Two men were badly hurt when a car involved in a police chase ploughed into the front of a furniture shop.

The white Volkswagen Scirocco was being followed by officers when it crashed into the DFS store in Cannock, Staffordshire Police said.

A pursuit began when two cars overtook an unmarked force car at speed, according to the police watchdog.

Two men were thrown from the car and suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash at about 03:45 BST..

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), said it did not believe the cars had made contact before the crash.

It said it has evidence the police activated their blue lights and followed the cars before the Volkswagen hit the furniture shop.

IOPC Regional Director Derrick Campbell it had begun to gather statements from officers and CCTV footage to help it form "an early picture of what has happened".
