Rape attack on girl, 14, in Haverhill alley

A 14-year-old girl has reported to police that she was raped in Suffolk approximately three weeks ago.

The teenager was walking alone on Greenfields Way towards Headlands Avenue in Haverhill when a man asked her for a light.

He then assaulted her and pulled her into an alleyway where he raped her.

Officers said the incident, which happened at about 1750 BST on a weekday evening, was reported to them on Sunday.

The girl has described her attacker as a white male, about 6ft 3in (1.90m), bald, with stubble and bloodshot eyes.

He has a Union Jack tattoo on one of his upper arms and was wearing black tracksuit bottoms and a beige vest.

Work is being carried out to establish exactly where the incident occurred, which will lead to house-to-house inquiries, police said.

Det Insp Andy Footer says: "The female is extremely traumatised by this incident and has been very brave in coming forward to report this.

"As the attack occurred some weeks ago it is imperative that we speak to anyone who was in the area at the time as soon as possible, and I urge anyone who has any information which could assist with this inquiry to contact police without delay."
