Village homes evacuated over gas tank in Suffolk fire

Thirty homes and businesses in a small Suffolk village were evacuated for several hours because of a fire involving a gas cylinder.

Crews from Norfolk and Suffolk were called to the fire at a house in Mendham, near Harleston, at lunchtime.

The fire service set up a 500ft (200m) cordon after spotting an acetylene gas cylinder.

About 100 villagers were allowed home just before 1600 BST after the fire was put out and the cylinder checked.
