Designer deckchairs painted by artists and celebrities to raise money for a Suffolk hospice have sold for almost £16,000.

Thirty of the 50 deckchairs designed by people including writer Laura Beaumont and TV personality Bill Oddie were sold on Friday night in Ipswich.

The Suffolk Coastal Deckchairs Project is aimed at raising as much money as possible for St Elizabeth Hospice.

A deckchair of cartoon character Mr Benn fetched the most, at £1,600.

Project organiser Carl Brooks said: "We were really pleased with how the auction went and know the £16,000 raised will go a long way to help fund our services.

"However it is not over yet, the remaining 20 deckchairs are up for auction online until 12 October so we hope to raise even more."

People can place bids on the remaining 20 chairs at the hospice's website.
