Fatal fire in Suffolk garage was not suspicious

A fire in a garage in Beccles in which a man died is now not believed to have been suspicious.

The man's body was found in the garage by firefighters who tackled the blaze in Grange Road at about 0030 BST on Saturday.

A Suffolk Police spokesman said the dead man was a vagrant known as Ray who was thought to have been in his 40s.

They have appealed for anyone with more information about him or his next of kin to contact Lowestoft CID.

Police said Ray was an annual visitor to the town and had been given permission to sleep in the garage.

They said the source of the fire was believed to have been an old barbecue or similar item that he was using.
