Tickets are being given away for a party at Christchurch Park in Ipswich to mark the arrival of the Olympic torch.

The flame will arrive in Lowestoft on 5 July and make its way to Ipswich in time for the two-hour celebration.

DanceEast and Aldeburgh Music will provide entertainment, alongside Essex band Morning Parade, and Twist and Pulse from Britain's Got Talent.

About 5,000 free tickets will be available from Wednesday morning.

Another 5,000 will be allocated to local schools and sports clubs.

Ipswich Borough Council said an area had to be cordoned off for the show under guidance from Olympic organisers Locog.

Those in the arena will also get to see the final torchbearer of the day light a cauldron.

Councillor Bryony Rudkin, portfolio holder for culture, said there would be other activities around the park and a large screen relaying the events from the arena near Westerfield Road.

"There will be lots of other things going on and you might actually prefer to see the torch going through the town anyway," she added.

Tickets will be available from Gallery 1 at the Town Hall from 08:00-14:00 BST on Wednesday, or online from the Ipswich Regent website from 11:00 BST.
