An open water swimming event in Suffolk has been postponed due to a forecast of strong winds.

The Great East Swim was due to take place at Alton Water Country Park near Ipswich on Saturday but has been put back 24 hours.

About 3,000 swimmers were due to take part. Refunds have been offered to people who cannot make it on Sunday.

The entry fee ranges from £26 to £38 depending on which of the four distances participants chose to swim.

Alex Jackson from organiser Nova International said: "We are sorry to delay the event by 24 hours and fully understand the inconvenience this will cause, but the safety and well-being of our participants will always be our number one priority."
