Suffolk Police has confirmed a male pilot died when his light aircraft crashed in a Suffolk village on Saturday morning.

The aircraft is said to have caught fire as it hit power lines and a tree before becoming submerged in a pond in Aldham near Hadleigh.

The man's next of kin has been informed but formal identification is yet to take place, police said.

The Air Accident Investigation Branch has taken the aircraft from the scene.

An investigation will be carried out to establish the cause of the crash.

UK Power Networks said 229 customers in the Aldham and Elmsett area lost their power on Saturday morning.

All connections were restored by 05:14 GMT on Sunday, a spokesperson said.
