£1m is promised to improve roads in Surrey

A total of £1m has been pledged to improve roads in Surrey.

The money has been promised by the county council after feedback from residents revealed the state of the highways was of particular concern.

Now communities within the county will be asked where and how the amount should be spent.

Council leader Dr Andrew Povey said roads were not up to standard because of a lack of government funding and the money would help improve the situation.

He said: "The extra £1m will not solve the problem but it will help and I hope it will show residents we are serious about getting our roads up to scratch."
