Pedestrians hurt in hit-and-run crash in Chertsey

Two pedestrians are in hospital with serious injuries after they were hit by a car whose occupants ran off.

Police were called to the scene, on the A320 Staines Road in Chertsey, by ambulance crews who took the injured pedestrians to St Peter's Hospital.

The Surrey Police helicopter and a dog unit were sent to the scene, near the entrance to Thorpe Park, but were unable to find the car's occupants.

Officers appealed for witnesses to the crash which happened close to midnight.

A police spokesman said the vehicle was a black Corsa, which was travelling north when it left the road, hit the pedestrians and ended up in a ditch.

The pedestrians' injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The A320 was closed for six hours while police carried out an investigation.
