Mail bag stolen in Limpsfield discovered empty

A mail bag stolen from a postal worker's bike was later found empty in a van stopped on the A25 in Surrey.

Police said a man was seen getting out of a van and taking in the mailbag from outside St Peter's Church, in Limpsfield High Street on 23 August.

Police are appealing for information and for anyone who has found discarded mail in bushes, bins or anywhere unusual to come forward.

A man aged 71 arrested in connection with the incident has been bailed.

The man who took the bag returned to the van and was driven off.

He is described as white, in his late teens or early 20s, slim and about 5ft 4in tall and wearing a dark-coloured hat and dark trousers.

Investigating officer Dave Evans said police wanted to talk to anyone who saw a white van parked near the church or who saw a man carrying the mail bag.
