Chobham Gospel Hall in Surrey targeted by arsonists

Arsonists have targeted a small church hall in a Surrey village twice in a week.

Offenders broke into Chobham Gospel Hall in Chertsey Road and set fire to a tablecloth between midday and 1535 BST on Wednesday.

Two days earlier, on 6 September, offenders smashed a window and set fire to an organ cover, which fell to the floor and set fire to two chairs.

Surrey Police said the 100-year-old hall was also vandalised on 1 July.

Insp James Norbury said: "We are not sure why the hall has been targeted on three separate occasions.

"Fortunately, nobody was hurt and the damage caused could have been a lot worse."
