Police investigating the disappearance of an 82-year-old widower from Surrey have found a body in the garden of a property in Godalming.

Surrey Police said it was now treating the disappearance of Bill Williamson as a murder investigation.

Forensic officers searching the address in Miltons Crescent, Ockford Ridge, made the discovery on Friday afternoon.

A spokesman said it was too early to confirm the identity of the body. A man and a woman are under arrest.

Ann Browning, 53, who lived at the property in Miltons Crescent, was arrested on Wednesday. Police have been granted extra time to question her.

A 30-year-old man was arrested on Thursday afternoon.

September sighting

Mr Williamson used to live in Church Road, Milford, near Godalming, but moved to Ockford Ridge in early September after selling his own home.

Police initially issued a missing persons appeal.

"I would like to renew our appeal for information regarding Bill Williamson's movements in recent weeks and I would urge anyone who may have seen him to contact us as soon as possible," said Det Insp Juliet Parker.

"The last confirmed sighting we have of him was on Friday 10 September and we are anxious to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard from him since that date."

He was described as white, about 5ft, with a heavy build, a southern accent, and white hair which was bald on top.

A post-mortem examination is to be carried out on the body.
