West Molesey mother admits cruelty over baby's death

A 19-year-old mother charged following the death of her eight-month-old daughter in Surrey has pleaded guilty to child cruelty.

The mother was arrested after paramedics were called to her home on 18 December last year.

At Guildford Crown Court on Wednesday, she denied a charge of causing or allowing the death of a child.

That charge will lie on file, and the mother will be sentenced on 10 December.

The baby was pronounced dead after being taken to St Peter's Hospital, Chertsey.

A post-mortem examination revealed the cause of death was immersion.
