Surrey County Council urges householders to vet traders

Trading Standards have urged people to check their website for trusted traders after an elderly woman was nearly tricked out of £1,000.

Officials said the Buy with Confidence scheme allowed consumers to hire workmen who have been fully vetted.

Earlier this month, a 76-year-old woman from Bookham was driven to a building society and told to withdraw money for work on her house she did not want.

A 46-year-old man from Chilworth was arrested and bailed over the incident.
