Key warning after Surrey vehicle thefts

Homeowners have been warned to keep car keys hidden after thieves got into a house in Surrey and stole three vehicles from the driveway.

Surrey Police said the thieves got into the property on Woodland Avenue, Cranleigh, on either Sunday or Monday.

A Land Rover Discovery was moved and left outside a neighbouring property and two other vehicles - an Audi R8 and a Range Rover - were taken.

The two vehicles were later recovered in Reigate and Westcott.

Officers said the keys to all three vehicles were still missing.

Make things easy

John Robini, Waverley crime reduction advisor, said: "We need homeowners to work with us by taking a few basic crime prevention measures.

"These include keeping keys in a safe place and out of sight of opportunist burglars."

He said modern front doors incorporated multi-point locking systems, but if homeowners did not use them correctly they were making things easier for burglars.

People have been urged to keep keys away from accessible areas of their homes.
