Bus CCTV gives clue in Guildford rape inquiry
Detectives investigating the rape of a 14-year-old girl near Guildford have said CCTV from buses in the area has revealed a man who could help them.
The girl was attacked in woods just off London Road, Burpham, near the junction with Abbotswood and Weylea Avenue, at about 1600 BST on 16 September.
Surrey Police said CCTV taken from buses in London Road showed a man who has not yet been identified.
Officers want to find him to see if he saw anything that could help the case.
The man was captured on CCTV walking along London Road from Weylea Avenue towards the Baker Tilley roundabout at 1515 BST on the day of the rape.
Det Ch Insp Steve Hayes, of Surrey Police, said the CCTV image was just one line of inquiry being followed to identify the attacker.
"My team are working hard to catch this man and we need more help from local people to do this," he said.
"Do you recognise the man captured on the bus camera recordings? Are you that man?
"I'm asking the man to come forward so we can interview him, eliminate him, and help us progress this important investigation."
He said police had good evidence which could eliminate suspects.
Officers have not yet eliminated a man whose e-fit was issued shortly after the attack and still want to identify him.
He was described as slim, white, tanned and in his early 20s, with short scruffy brown hair and stubble on his face.
He was wearing a brown or mustard hoodie top with a light coloured T-shirt, baggy denim jeans and grubby white trainers.
