Body of man recovered from river in Ewell

The body of a man aged between 50 and 60 found in a river in Surrey had no documentation to help identify him, police have said.

Officers were called to Green Lanes, Ewell at about 1120 GMT on Wednesday following reports that a body had been seen in the Hogsmill River.

The body was recovered, but the man's identity is not yet known.

He is described as about 5ft 10in and of medium build, with short grey hair and stubble.

Cause of death

He was wearing grey jogging bottoms, a brown bomber jacket, light blue T-shirt and black socks.

A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out later this week to establish the cause of death.

"We continue to conduct a number of enquiries both in Surrey and with surrounding forces but at present this individual remains unidentified," said Surrey Police Det Insp David Cooper.

"I am appealing for anyone who recognises his description or who has information which could assist us to contact police."
