Work begins next week to improve safety at a junction on the A3 near Thursley in Surrey.

The Highways Agency said it was changing the road layout where Lea Coach Road and Warren Mere met the A3.

It said it would remove the right-hand turn, improve the road markings and introduce new signs.

A spokesman for the agency said overnight lane closures would be in place for up to a week, starting on Tuesday.

The main work on the scheme would start on 10 January, with speed restrictions and lane closures put in place, he added.

Project manager Surrinder Bhangu said: "Having a right hand turn across this busy section of the A3 is no longer acceptable from a safety point of view."

The work is expected to be completed by March.
