Surrey police probe flat murder in Addlestone

A murder investigation is under way after a man in his 50s was found dead at a flat in Surrey.

Officers were called to a first floor flat at Abell Court in Brighton Road, Addlestone, at about 0800 GMT on Monday.

Surrey Police said the man had not been formally identified but was believed to be John Dowling, who lived alone.

Police said the man had sustained injuries but it is not known how they were inflicted.

Post-mortem test

Officers said a neighbour called police because the front door of the victim's flat had been left open.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place at the Royal Surrey County Hospital later.

Det Insp Jo Sidaway, of Surrey Police said: "We are still awaiting the post-mortem result and cannot say how the injuries were received.

"We want to establish the full circumstances of this death as soon as we can."
