The next stages of a £50m housing regeneration scheme for Surrey have been given the go ahead.

Spelthorne Borough Council has approved phases two and three of the Stanwell New Start scheme.

The next stage will see 181 new homes built, as well as a supported housing scheme for older people.

Councillor John Packman, the leader of the Conservative-controlled council, said the project marked an "exciting future".

In total, developer A2Dominion has plans for 304 homes with more than half being made available as affordable housing.

Building work on the next phase of the project is set to begin in the autumn.

Construction work will focus on Explorer Avenue, Holywell Way and Mulberry Avenue.

A community centre, children's play areas and landscaped open space are also planned.
