Plans to build a £6m leisure centre in Surrey have been approved by councillors.

Waverley Borough Council has given the go ahead to build the facility in Godalming. Designs include a swimming pool, gym, and dance studio.

The current leisure centre, which was built in the 1970s, will be demolished.

The new facility will be built on unused grass tennis courts in Broadwater Park. It is expected to open in November 2012.

The Conservative-run local authority has put £2.6m to one side to pay for the £6m centre, and the balance of about £3.5m would be borrowed and repaid over 15 years.
