A man charged with the murder of a man who was found dead at his flat in Surrey has been remanded in custody.

The body of John Dowling, 56, was found at his home in Abell Court, Brighton Road, Addlestone, on 7 February. He was last seen two days earlier.

Shane Walker, a 22-year-old unemployed man from Addlestone, appeared at Woking Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

A post-mortem examination found Mr Dowling, who police say was "well known locally", died of multiple injuries.

Mr Walker will next appear at Guildford Crown Court on 21 April.
