Construction work on a £6m leisure centre in Surrey has begun.

Waverley Borough Council has given the go ahead to build the facility in Godalming.

The new leisure centre, which is being built next to the current centre at Broadwater Park, is due to open in autumn 2012.

The current leisure centre, which was built in the 1970s, will be demolished. Designs include a swimming pool, gym, and dance studio.
