'Thousands stolen' in Caterham cash robbery

Thousands of pounds in cash was stolen from a woman as she was getting out of her vehicle in a supermarket car park in Surrey, police said.

The robbery, in which the woman's handbag, purse and mobile phone were taken, happened in Station Avenue in Caterham on Monday.

The woman was getting out of her car at the Waitrose supermarket.

"This was an appalling attack in the middle of the morning with many people around," said Det Con Anna Blanco.

Surrey Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

The suspect is described as white, about 6ft tall, slim and in his late 20s.

He was wearing a dark hooded top and ran off in the direction of Croydon Road, towards Kenley.
