Fatal crash in Oxted referred to police watchdog

The police watchdog is to investigate the death of a pedestrian in his 80s who was struck by a car in Surrey.

The man was struck by a Mazda in Station Road, Oxted, at about 16.15 GMT on Friday.

Surrey Police said it had informed the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) because a marked police car was nearby at the time.

Emergency services attended but he died at the scene. Anyone who saw the incident should contact the force.
