Public consultation over Surrey waste soil processing site

A proposal to give permission for a waste soil processing facility at a recycling plant in Surrey has been put out to public consultation.

The Environment Agency is seeking to grant an environmental permit for the facility at Mid Surrey Farm, in Epsom.

It will ensure that Surrey Green Waste runs the site without causing harm to the environment and human health.

Up to 75,000 tonnes of non-hazardous waste soils will be processed at the site.

Environment management team leader Rob Wise said an environmental permit sets out "stringent operational and pre-operational conditions that a site must adhere to".

"We will not issue an environmental permit for any site if we consider it will harm human health or cause significant pollution to the environment."

Residents will be able to find out more about the draft permit at a drop-in session at Bourne Hall, in Ewell, on 19 April between 14:00 and 19:00 BST.
