A man suspected of stealing a Porsche and assaulting a police officer is being sought by detectives in Surrey.

Surrey Police said the theft of the car was reported in Frimley in the early hours of Tuesday.

Minutes later, an officer saw the Porsche in Brookwood and got out of his vehicle to speak to the driver. He was hit by the car as the man drove off.

The police officer suffered injuries to his arm. Detectives have issued a CCTV image of a man they want to identify.

Police said the black Porsche Cayenne Turbo was stolen from an address in Frimley between 14:55 BST and 15:01 BST.

The officer, who had been on patrol in Brookwood, tried to speak to the man in Connaught Road, near the junction with Bagshot Road.

Police have appealed for help in identifying the man seen in the CCTV image and have said they want to speak to him in connection with both the theft and the assault.
