Owners of Surrey cemetery urged to secure site after bones found

The owners of a disused cemetery where children discovered human bones have been urged to secure the site.

Sheila Carlson, the Mayor of Epsom and Ewell, has called on Marque Securities, which owns Horton Cemetery, to take action.

Surrey Police confirmed that human remains, which are considered non-suspicious, were found by two 13-year-olds nearby.

About 8,500 people are buried in the cemetery.

Ms Carlson said she would like to see the owners treat the cemetery with respect.

"Ownership has not just rights but responsibilities and they have 8,500 responsibilities," she said.

No one from the company was available to comment.
