Girl badly hurt in crash which shuts M23 in Surrey

A six-year-old girl was airlifted to hospital after a crash which closed a motorway in Surrey for two hours.

The girl was in a Mercedes which was in a crash with a Ford S-Max just after 12:00 BST northbound on the M23 near Redhill, close to the M25 junction.

She was flown to the Royal London Hospital with a 20-year-old woman. Both suffered serious head and leg injuries.

The road was closed both ways with the southbound lanes reopened at 1420 BST. Northbound, the motorway remained shut.

The female driver of the Mercedes was taken to Kings College London and the male driver of the Ford was taken to St George's Hospital in Tooting.
