Ash schoolboy injured in hit-and-run

An 11-year-old boy has been injured in a collision with a car which failed to stop outside a school in Surrey.

He was leaving the school in Ash when he was hit by the silver Mercedes Benz E250 in Manor Road at about 15:05 BST.

Two air ambulances attended the scene but the child was taken by road to St George's Hospital in Tooting, south London, police said.

The car, which had been travelling towards Tongham, was later recovered, and a 30-year-old man was arrested.

The road was closed at its junction with Kings Avenue and reopened at 17:40 BST.

Officers are appealing for witnesses with any information relating to the collision to contact them.
