A man who threatened to set a cashier on fire if he did not hand over cash from a till at a petrol station in Surrey is being sought by police.

He targeted the Total shop in Molesey Road, Hersham, on Sunday, selecting a bottle of lighter fluid and asking the employee for matches and cigarettes.

He then demanded cash and the man's mobile phone before threatening to set him alight with the lighter fluid.

However, he fled empty-handed when the cashier pressed a panic button.

Police investigating the attempted robbery, which happened at about 17:30 GMT, have released a CCTV image of the offender.
