Fake police in wigs steal thousands from Surrey property

Four men posing as policemen and wearing wigs and dark eye make-up have stolen thousands of pounds in cash from a property in Surrey.

The thieves went to an address in Woodlands Road in Little Bookham, where they were challenged by the occupants.

After claiming to be police officers, one threatened the victims - two men aged in their 60s and 80s - with a screwdriver.

They then fled in a black car. Neither victim was injured during the incident.

Det Con Heather Francis, from Surrey Police, said the "appalling crime", at about 20:20 BST on Monday, was a "terrifying ordeal" for the victims.

"We believe the offenders will have checked out the area prior to committing the crime," she said.

She urged anyone who had seen anything suspicious to contact the force.
