Man arrested after pensioner robbed in Redhill

A 27-year-old man has been arrested after a robbery and attempted robbery near Redhill town centre in Surrey.

The offender, who was aged in his 20s and travelling in a vehicle, first targeted a man in his 70s, threatening him and forcing him to hand over £40.

A short time later, another man was approached by a suspect of similar description, who left his vehicle and threatened him with a bottle.

The man left the scene empty handed after the victim phoned the police.

The separate incidents happened at about 12:40 BST, officers said.

The arrested man is being questioned on suspicion of robbery, attempted robbery and driving while under the influence of drink or drugs.
