Sunbury woodland attack man suffers fractured skull
A man is in hospital with a fractured skull after being attacked in woodland in Sunbury.
The victim, who is in his 50s, is due to have surgery on his injuries at a London hospital.
Police found him in a lay-by on the A316 on Monday at 17:40 BST but believe he was attacked in the adjoining woods.
They are trying to track down two men - believed to be in their early 20s - who were seen by a passer-by close to the scene of the assault.
Det Insp Gareth Hicks, of Surrey Police, said: "This was a vicious assault that has left the victim with a serious head injury. At this stage the motive for this attack is unknown."
He said he wanted to find the two men mentioned by a witness. One was wearing a dark hooded top, with the hood up.
A police spokesman said the victim's condition would become clearer after the surgery, at St Mary's Hospital in west London, but he described the injuries as serious.
