Knaphill child abduction investigation closed

An investigation into a number of attempted abductions of young girls has been closed after Surrey police said there was insufficient evidence.

Two men had been arrested after a 12 year-old, a five-year-old and a 10-year-old girl reported the attempted abductions in Knaphill.

In May, a 47-year-old man from Chertsey was eliminated from police inquiries.

A 27-year-old Woking man has had his bail cancelled. Police said there was no evidence to uphold the allegations.

Det Ch Supt Helen Collins said: "A thorough investigation has taken place and following extensive enquiries officers have found nothing that would suggest there is - or was - any on-going risk to the general public."
